Care Tips to Extend the Lifespan of Your Roses

Christy Rivera

Rose delivery is an affordable yet efficient way of sprucing up the interior of your home without having to spend an excessive amount of time decorating your space. Natural blooms are always better than artificial flowers because not only are their colours more vivid, but they also add a subtle scent to your rooms that will linger for days on end. Roses may be economical, but replacing them every other day can prove expensive in the long run. In an aim to keep your household costs manageable, it is best to take utmost care of your flowers so they can serve you for as long as possible. Here are care tips that can come in handy to extend the lifespan of your roses.

Place your roses in an ideal location

Roses are quite delicate flowers. They need to be placed in a location that will provide them with optimum living conditions, or you will soon find your blooms dying away.

The first consideration when selecting an ideal place to put your roses is the exposure to light. Direct sunlight will quickly wilt the roses, so you should ensure that they have some degree of shade from the natural light permeating your home. Secondly, you need to consider the temperature. Erratic temperatures can wreak havoc on your flower arrangement. Thus, be sure to keep your roses away from any heaters, open windows, vents and so on.

Protect your roses from bacterial infections

You may associate bacterial infections with humans and animals, but plants are also vulnerable to these macrophages too! Without proper care, your roses can quickly become ravaged by an infection that will make them die in no time.

The first thing that you need to do to keep your roses protected is to clean out the vases on a periodic basis. Pour out the water and thoroughly clean the receptacle to eliminate any pathogens that may be growing inside the vessel. Secondly, any fresh water being put into the vase should be sterilised to limit the risk of breeding bacteria. Luckily, a splash of regular household bleach is sufficient to disinfect the water. Lastly, only utilise distilled water for your roses, as it is hard for bacteria to thrive in this liquid.

Handle the rose stems with care

The stems of your roses are their primary channel for moisture absorption. Thus, they need to stay in tiptop condition if your blooms are to receive adequate hydration. Treat the stems as fragile parts of the flowers and avoid any physical damage by not bending or pinching them. Moreover, only use a smooth, sharpened tool to trim the stems and do so at an angle to boost the intake of water.
