Three Things to Do If You're Worried You Have a Cockroach Infestation

Christy Rivera

Having an infestation of cockroaches in your home, or even just a few roaches, can be really upsetting and worrying. This article explains three things you should do if you start to suspect you have cockroaches or are worried about them for any reason.

Look Out for the Tell-tale Signs

You may have seen a living roach, or perhaps you're simply worried that you might have a cockroach problem. Whatever the case, spend some time looking around your home for the tell-tale signs of cockroaches. Cockroaches produce a unique smell that many people describe as oily or musty. You should also look out for their droppings, which are around 2mm long and typically black or brown, as well as their shed skins. These signs, as well as seeing or hearing living roaches scuttling around, are key indicators of a problem. Knowing the signs, however, allows you to act quickly.

Search for Roaches in Their Common Hideouts

Have you seen a roach, but not much evidence of an infestation? By searching for roaches in the places they enjoy living, you can get a better idea of whether you have an infestation or simply a lone roach. It will also provide useful information to give to pest control if you call them. They often enjoy moisture, so focus your search on wet rooms like your kitchen, laundry room and bathroom. Look behind your toilet and sink, as well as low-level bathroom or kitchen cabinets and the cupboard under your sink. Take a look behind your washing machine, and in other damp, warm nooks and crannies. You may find live roaches, or simply more evidence such as droppings or shed skin.

Call Pest Control

If you've found evidence of a cockroach infestation, or your searches simply haven't set your mind at rest, it's important to call pest control. A small infestation can grow larger quickly and get out of hand, and seeing cockroaches around is always unpleasant. Healthline also explains that they can be bad for your health, describing how they can cause allergic reactions and spread disease. For all these reasons, it's important to deal with the issue quickly. A good pest control company will be able to deal with your infestation quickly and efficiently, as well as give you advice on how to avoid future issues.

By looking around your home for the tell-tale signs and then searching out the cockroaches in places they like to hide, you can get a good idea of whether you have a problem. You can then call a pest control company for a speedy, easy resolution of your cockroach infestation.

For more information, contact a local pest control company.
